The Channel of Transitoriness

Gate 36, the Gate of Crisis, is where fears of vulnerability and inexperience (emotional and sexual) are transformed into experience. It restrains the strong hope-to-pain wave that drives human experience toward change. The full range and depth of emotions are readied for manifestation but need someone or something to trigger their release.

Gate 36 perceives inexperience as inadequacy. This draws you into seeking experience, occasionally by engendering crisis just to get things moving. Doing anything for the first time is not easy. Outcomes are unpredictable. Most people are not equipped to handle the resulting crises. But people with this channel are built for it.

Gate 35, the Gate of Change, is driven by restless curiosity and high expectations, a desire to explore new horizons for sheer exhilaration. Its voice says: "I feel" what I usually feel is desire for change. This feeling is prodded along not by awareness but by hunger for depth of feeling, conditioned by the emotional wave.

Like hunger, desire and curiosity are only temporarily satisfied. The focus is collecting experiences to learn from rather than repeating experiences to master them. Mastery comes in the form of wisdom, manifested as advice based on memories of all the things you have tried.

Pushed along by the unaware Solar Plexus wave, you can become volatile or feel letdown if a new experience fails to meet expectations. The secret: embrace and accept your emotional swings, give yourself time to make emotionally clear decisions, surrender to fully living each correct experience for its own sake.

Over time, experience culminates as emotional depth within personal truth. You learn that feelings are transitory. Your great accomplishment: you will have tasted, touched, and felt many things, from which you gleaned wisdom of great value. Your advice to others: seize the moment.

For those with the Channel of Transitoriness, interaction with others means sharing the experience completely. The need for new experience makes it difficult to maintain intimate relationships. There is an inherent sense that nothing lasts. Partners may be dragged along on adventures not right for them.

Deeply emotional experiences often have a sexual dimension, but relating is focused on feelings provoked by the experience rather than on the other person. Both parties can be left with disappointment when the experience is over. Through restless exploration of feeling, the Collective's gene pool expands and our species matures.
