The Channel of Mutation

The creative mutative process is subject to a pulse, and you never know when something that has the potential to become a mutation will be released. The pressure from the Root creates a deep restlessness to move ahead, and limitations of any kind may feel like roadblocks.

Gate 60 (Acceptance) sits in the Root Center with the hexagram name Limitation. Its keynote is "The acceptance of limitation is the first step in transcendence." it as where all evolutionary possibilities converge, creating the pressure needed for pure energy to mutate into form. If you become impatient with the unpredictable mutative process, the melancholy inherent in the 60th gate can deepen and become chronic depression.

Gate 3 (Ordering) sits in the Sacral Center with the hexagram name Difficulty at the Beginning. Its function is to transcend confusion and establish order so that something new and potentially viable can take hold in the world. Waiting for the right moment for something mutative to happen can feel like forever. There is an on/off creative pulse that prevails here, and the potential for something new is neither logical nor experiential.

The key to living with this channel is understanding that the melancholy is mechanical moodiness, not emotional disturbance. The teachings advises avoiding trying to reason it away. It is better to remain patient and alert as you wait for the new mutation to arrive on the scene through you.

This melancholy is experienced on a chemical level in the body. As agents of mutation and change, Individuals may find themselves trying to give reasons for their moods and getting caught in discomforting shadow places they normally tend to avoid. Time spent alone with your muse during the off phase can deepen the inner journey. What is not yet ready to emerge continues to gestate and grow.

The endless movement from chaos to order to chaos is the nature of the format energy as it always engenders the possibility for something new to come into the world.

You only have to accept the limitation inherent in not knowing when this change will happen and surrender to your Sacral response to bring the energy of change to all of us. The not-self pattern is frustration: chronic melancholy becoming depression, chaotic and destabilizing change attempts, and impatient forcing of mutation before its time.

The potential for evolutionary change that comes through this unpredictable, mutative, and melancholic channel depends on one's capacity to accept limitation (Gate 60) and transcend the confusion of new beginnings (Gate 3). If you do not wait for the right timing, for the structures needed for true mutation to settle into place, your enthusiasm for change will simply destabilize those around you rather than empower and influence them.
