Overview
Appetite is the most primitive determination type. Color 1 in the digestion system, it belongs to the Lower Trigram, which means it concerns conditions (the food itself) rather than circumstances (the environment around eating). Appetite is about safety and security through simplicity. One thing at a time.
Food has become increasingly complicated with additives, fillers, dyes, and layered preparations. Appetite determination calls for a return to basics: simple, recognizable, single-ingredient foods. "The 1st Color - APPETITE - foundational, primitive, simple, one thing at a time. Think 'caveman' diet." The name says it: think about how early humans ate. They found one food source and consumed it. No complex recipes. No mixed dishes.
This principle extends beyond food. How you eat is how you process all information. If complex foods disrupt digestion, cluttered information environments disrupt cognition. Appetite types need singular focus in learning, work, and consumption of any kind.

Consecutive vs. Alternating
The left-right split in Appetite creates two distinct patterns. Consecutive (Left, Tones 1-3) is the active, strategic approach. Eat ONE food per meal or sitting. Finish one food completely before touching the next. A plate of just chicken. Then a separate serving of just broccoli. No mixing, no alternating bites. Sequential eating, sequential learning, sequential projects. Step 1, then step 2.
Alternating (Right, Tones 4-6) maintains the simplicity requirement but with more flexibility. Snacking on simple foods throughout the day works. Small portions regularly rather than big structured meals. Eating when hungry instead of by the clock. The food must still be simple and single-ingredient, but the rhythm is fluid rather than regimented.
How Conditioning Works Against Appetite
Modern eating culture directly contradicts Appetite determination. Mixed dishes are the norm: casseroles, stir-fries, salads with twelve ingredients. Complex recipes are celebrated. Variety in a single meal is expected. Social eating often means sharing mixed platters.
Ra called food "the great homogenizing agent." Not eating according to your Determination homogenizes your digestive system. For Appetite, this means every mixed dish, every trail mix, every multi-ingredient bite interferes with how the brain receives nourishment. The security that comes from knowing exactly what you consume gets eroded by hidden ingredients and mystery preparations.
Information Follows Food
Consecutive Appetite cannot multitask effectively. One task at a time, one subject at a time, one project completed before the next begins. Linear progression. Minimal clutter in the environment. Alternating Appetite can switch between simple tasks more fluidly but still cannot handle complex multitasking.
The pattern holds across all forms of input. Complex information environments disrupt cognition the same way complex foods disrupt digestion. Simplicity is the operating principle in both domains.
Living Appetite Practically
Prepare meals with single ingredients, even if eating them in the same sitting. Order components separately at restaurants. Separate foods on your plate. Eat in courses for Consecutive. Keep simple portable snacks available for Alternating.
Don't apologize for being boring with food choices. The simplicity that Appetite requires creates a foundation of security. In a world of increasingly complicated everything, returning to basics is not restriction. It is optimization.
