Lunar Authority
28-Day Lunar Cycle
Overview
Lunar Authority belongs exclusively to Reflectors — those with no centers defined in their chart — and Reflectors make up roughly 1 percent of all people. With no defined centers, there is no fixed inner authority: no gut response, no intuitive hit, no willpower motor, no identity voice to listen to. What exists instead is a continuous, shifting relationship with the transits of the Moon.
The Moon moves through all 64 gates of the Human Design Mandala in approximately 28.5 days. As it transits each gate, a Reflector experiences temporary definition — a brief period where that gate's energy passes through them, coloring their perception and their felt sense of any situation. Over the course of a full lunar cycle, a Reflector samples every possible perspective on a decision.
"Before making important decisions, Reflectors are designed to wait through their personal and consistent monthly pattern of lunar transits, which repeats each month for as long as they live."
each Reflector's lunar pattern as personal and consistent — the same cycle repeating monthly throughout their life. Understanding and following this pattern is what gives a Reflector access to their decision-making process. Skipping the cycle produces what is called disappointment and dis-ease, the not-self signature of the Reflector.
Key Points
- Major decisions require 28+ days of lunar processing
- Each day brings a different perspective as Moon moves
- Track your experience across the full cycle
- What remains consistent = your truth
- Environment and people profoundly influence your process
Practical Tips
- For big decisions, start a 28-day journal
- Notice which Moon phases feel clearest for you
- Surround yourself with healthy environments and people
- Share your process with those who must wait for your answer
- Small daily decisions don't need full cycles—trust surprise and delight
Not-Self Signs
- Making major decisions in less than 28 days
- Trusting one day's clarity as the whole picture
- Being in wrong environments that distort sampling
- Not tracking your experience across the cycle
- Trying to have authority like the other types
Deep Dive
What the 28-Day Wait Actually Does
Waiting 28 days is not a delay imposed on the Reflector from outside. It is the time required for the Moon to complete its circuit through all 64 gates, giving the Reflector access to every possible reading of a situation. On day 3, the Moon may be transiting a gate that colors the decision one way. On day 17, it will be somewhere completely different, and the same decision will feel different.
this as sampling: the Reflector experiences the decision from all angles across the cycle. Some days the choice feels clearly right. Other days it feels uncertain or wrong. Neither reading is the final answer on its own. The pattern across the entire cycle, and the inner knowing that eventually arrives at the end of it, is what constitutes the authority signal.
Confidantes as a Structural Requirement
The teachings is direct that Reflectors cannot go through major decisions alone. They need trusted confidantes — not advisers who push toward a conclusion, but people who will listen while the Reflector talks through the same decision multiple times over the 28-day period.
The purpose is similar to the sounding board role described for Mental Projectors, but extended across the full lunar cycle. What the Reflector hears themselves say on day 5, then again on day 12, then again on day 24, begins to form a picture. The teachings states that Reflectors will one day simply arrive at an inner knowing — a felt sense of which direction is correct — through this process of hearing themselves over time.
Environment Shapes the Clarity
Reflectors mirror their environment more completely than any other type in Human Design. With every center open, they receive and amplify whatever is present around them. this as making the correct environment essential — not just pleasant, but functionally necessary for well-being.
During the 28-day waiting period, The teachings recommends sampling the decision in different physical environments and noting how each affects the clarity of the reading. A decision that feels one way in a stressful environment may feel different in a supportive one, and that difference is information. Being in the correct place with correct people is described as imperative to the Reflector's health.
Not Indecision — A Different Clock
The world operates largely on Generator and Manifestor timing — fast response, gut yes or no, immediate informing. A Reflector asking for 28 days will often encounter confusion or pressure from people who interpret the wait as hesitation or inability to decide.
The teachings is clear: the 28-day cycle is not indecision. It is the correct decision-making process for this design. If a situation genuinely cannot accommodate the wait, that as information too — the decision may not be the Reflector's to make, or the situation is not structured to support them. The Reflector's response to external pressure, as it, is to hold the boundary: I need this time, and if that does not work, this may not be right for me.
