Human Design Authority

Lunar Authority

28-Day Lunar Cycle

Overview

As a Reflector with Lunar Authority, you wait a full lunar cycle for major decisions. This is the seventh and final authority in the hierarchy, exclusive to Reflectors, the only type with all nine centers completely open.

Over approximately 28 days, the Moon moves through all 64 gates, temporarily defining different parts of your chart as it transits. This means you experience every decision from constantly shifting perspectives. What feels absolutely right on day three might feel completely wrong on day fifteen, and neither reaction is the whole truth. Your truth is found in what remains consistent across the entire cycle.

This makes keeping a decision journal invaluable. Each day, notice how you feel about the choice you're considering. Some days it will feel obviously right; other days obviously wrong. Track these shifts. The pattern that emerges, the thread that keeps returning regardless of the Moon's position, reveals your consistent direction.

Your Lunar Authority is deeply connected to your environment. More than any other authority type, your process works best when your environment is healthy and supportive. Toxic environments distort your sampling ability, making the Moon's transit through your chart unreliable. Prioritize being in the right place with the right people as a foundation for your decision-making. When your environment is correct and you've waited through a complete cycle, your decisions carry a quality of deep wisdom and surprising accuracy that no other authority can match.

Deep Dive

Why 28 Days

With all centers open, you don't have a fixed internal authority. Your experience is literally dependent on planetary transits, especially the Moon. The Moon takes approximately 28 days to move through all 64 gates, temporarily defining different parts of your chart. Only after a complete cycle have you experienced the decision from every possible perspective. This isn't arbitrary, it's the minimum time required for you to have a complete sample of how this decision feels across your full range of experience.

Tracking Your Cycle

Keep a decision journal. Each day, notice how you feel about the choice. Some days it will feel obviously right; other days obviously wrong. Neither is the whole truth. The pattern that emerges, what keeps returning, reveals your consistent direction. Over time, you'll also notice patterns in your own lunar experience: certain gates that consistently bring clarity, certain phases where you feel most yourself. This self-knowledge makes your authority increasingly precise and trustworthy with practice.

Environment is Everything

More than any other type, you are designed to be in the right place with the right people. Your lunar authority works best when your environment is healthy. Toxic environments distort your sampling, making it harder to trust what you experience as you move through the lunar cycle. Prioritize place and community as part of your authority. Before making any major decision about where to live or who to be with, give yourself a full cycle in that environment to truly know if it's correct for you.

The Patience Practice

In a fast-paced world, waiting 28 days for a decision can feel impossibly slow. But rushing your process leads to the chronic disappointment that is your not-self theme. When pressured to decide quickly, be transparent: "This is a big decision for me and I need about a month to be sure." The right people and opportunities will respect this timeline. Those that don't, that demand an immediate answer, are often not correct for you anyway. Your patience is not a weakness; it's the source of your decision-making power.

Small vs Major Decisions

Not every decision requires a full lunar cycle. Day-to-day choices, what to eat, where to go, small social decisions, can be navigated more fluidly by noticing which transits bring you the most clarity and using those windows. Your lunar cycle strategy applies primarily to major life decisions: career changes, relationships, where to live, significant commitments. Learning to distinguish between decisions that need the full cycle and those that don't is part of mastering your unique authority.
